William “Sonny” Beaubien, a 40 year resident of Plum Island, passed away early Thursday morning December 22, 2022 at the Exeter Rehabilitation Center in Exeter, NH. He was born in Newburyport on October 19, 1935 to the late William G. and Mildred R. (Wells) Beaubien. Sonny was raised and educated in Newburyport graduating from Newburyport High School. Following his graduation He met his former wife Eleanor (Surett) and the couple raised their family in Newburyport.
Sonny was employed his entire career for the City of Newburyport. He started at the DPW for a time before retiring as an Operator at the Treatment Plant. He also owned and operated The Gun Shop on Lincoln St. in Newburyport.
In his spare time Sonny enjoyed walking and collecting objects and “treasure” along the beach, as well as fishing and studying shipwrecks.
Sonny is survived by his children, William David Beaubien and his partner Suzie, Donna Sopko and her husband Mike, and Donald Beaubien; grandchildren, Madison and Parker Schmidt, Eric Beaubien, James, Jessika (Sopko) MacFarlane and her husband Billy, and Matt Sopko, as well as 2 great grandchildren, and his son in law John Schmidt. He was predeceased by his daughter Kristine Ann Schmidt; grandson, Jack William Schmidt; and his partner of 39 years Christine F. O’Brien.
