William Brewster Southworth Jr. left this earth on June 23, 2022. He was 93 years old.
William was born in Hingham, Massachusetts. He graduated from Colgate College in 1951 with a degree in economics. He served in the US Army as corporal in the Korean war and was honored in 2019 with the medal of peace from South Korea.
William was married to Shirley King Blackwell on December 15, 1951. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2021. He was a devoted husband and father to his three daughters.
William worked as a wool commodities broker for Nichols and Co, and Wellman Inc. He owned and operated Southworth Woodworking upon retirement. His clinker built Herreshoff pram was featured in the third issue of Wooden Boat magazine, one of many wooden boats that he built. An avid sailor his entire life, he enjoyed frostbiting and summer racing out of Scituate Harbor.
William is survived by his wife Shirley, three daughters Susan Charles, and her husband Francis Charles, Judith Southworth and Andrea Southworth, four grandchildren Brewster Charles and his wife Sara Charles, Bridget Maley her husband Jason Maley, Grace Charles and her husband Curt Nehrkorn, Tucker Charles, and Mirabelle Maley his great granddaughter, as well as life-long friend, Philip Perkins and his wife Dorothy.
A celebration of life service will be held at 38 Main Street in Byfield, Massachusetts in late September.
