Salisbury, MA - William B. Gillis, 88, a resident of Salisbury, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2024, at his home.
He was born on May 7, 1936, in Beverly, MA, son of the late John and Winifred (McCarthy) Gillis. He grew up in Beverly and was educated in the Beverly schools.
Bill started his career as an assistant golf pro at the Portland Country Club in Maine under the tutelage of his brother, Jim Gillis who was the Head Pro there for many years. He later transitioned into the printing industry working at Bradford & Bigelow in Danvers and Witzgall Press Co. in Lawrence.
Bill was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and the PGA Tour. He loved spending time with his daughters’ families celebrating milestones and the holidays.
Bill is survived by his two daughters, Linda Gilbride and her husband Paul of Tyngsboro and Debby Thompson and her husband Michael of Gloucester. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Madison Gilbride of Bridgewater, Zachary Thompson of Gloucester and Cassidy Gilbride of Tyngsboro; two sisters, Elaine Hiltunen of Peabody and Ann Laferriere and her husband, Richard of Topsfield.
Bill is predeceased by his five brothers, Donald, John (Louise), Robert (Pauly), Thomas and James and four sisters, Elizabeth (Emile), Margaret (William), Virginia (Richard) and Helen.
In accordance with Bill’s wishes, his services will be private followed by a celebration of life at a later date.
