Wilfred Quirion Obituary

Will Quirion passed peacefully on January 13, 2023.  Born in Newburyport on June 7, 1931, he was the youngest of four children born to Adela (Picard) and Aime Quirion.  His life was guided by faith, love of family, and a strong moral compass.

After graduating with the Class of 1949 from Newburyport High School, he worked at the local factory and worked road construction until he eventually met and married his “tweets” Patricia Russell settling in Salisbury, MA.  He was employed by Gould Shawmut as a CNC Machine Operator for over 30 years, retiring at the young age of 55.  He enjoyed working with his hands and took immense pride in his work.  He also operated a bicycle repair shop known as Will’s Bike Shop.  He loved apple pie and was an avid Red Sox fan, a skilled pool player, and loved spending time with the guys in his pool league.

After retirement, playing golf with friends, gardening, woodworking, and, more recently, doing puzzles and playing a fierce game of cribbage all brought him enjoyment.  He made over 100 handmade cribbage boards giving them to friends, healthcare workers, and the local high school cribbage club.  He is perhaps known best for his limitless supply of jokes and his willingness to help others.

Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his "small and close family.” He cherished his role as a grandfather affectionately known as "Pampi." He could be seen at every graduation, dance recital, hockey game, play, or award ceremony beaming with pride.

He never lost the twinkle that lived in his eye and the love in his heart never wavered. His humble and quiet presence will be missed by all who had the honor to know him.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Patricia of 64 years, and his devoted daughter, Diane M. Doyle of Newburyport. The proud and loving grandfather to Kayla Doyle of Portsmouth, NH, and Gregory Doyle of Amesbury, MA.  He also leaves behind his sister Cecile Papoulias, with whom he shared a special bond, and his nieces Jill Papoulias, Jan Spear, and her husband Curt, Johnna DiFronzo, and her husband Charlie and their two sons Nick and Jake.  He was predeceased by brothers Albert and Lionel and brother-in-law Nick Papoulias.
