Thomas J. Tierney, Sr.

Thomas J. Tierney, Sr., 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his residence in Newburyport, MA on Monday April 4, 2022. He was born in Hyde Park, MA on February 19, 1937 to the late Francis and Mary (Malloy) Tierney. Raised and educated in Hyde Park, Thomas attended Hyde Park High School and Boston State College. Thomas was married to the late Beverly Savage for 61 years. They raised their family in Reading, MA and later in life moved to Newburyport where they resided for the past 20 years.

He was employed by New England Telephone Co. as a Repair/Installation Technician for over 34 years. Our Dad loved the beach and taking day trips with his beloved wife. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching sports, especially the Red Sox, but it was spending time with his family and friends that he cherished the most.

Thomas is survived by his children, Paula A. Tierney, of Boston, Thomas J. Tierney, Jr. and his wife Susan of Newburyport, Robert F. Tierney of Newburyport, and Elizabeth M. Burns and her husband Bryan of Marblehead; grandchildren, Zach, Halle, Benjamin, Samuel, and Harry; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Beverly, Thomas was predeceased by his grandson Charlie Burns; and brothers, Frank, Joseph, Roger “Bud*, Steve, and Gene Tierney.

Family and friends may call from 3:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday April 10, 2022 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. THERE IS NO LONGER ANY PARKING AVAILABLE BEHIND THE FUNERAL HOME PER ORDER OF THE CITY OF NEWBURYPORT. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Monday April 11, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Church, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
