Stanley Bobek Obituary

Colonel Stanley E. Bobek Jr. (Ret.), 91, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Stan was born in Depew, NY, on January 15, 1934, to Stanislaus and Helen (Polowniak) Bobek. Stan was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Josephine (Bobek) Jordan of Lewiston, NY. He is survived by his sister Phyllis (Bobek) Burke of Enfield, CT.

A proud graduate of Niagara Falls High School, Stan distinguished himself both academically and athletically. He was a standout on the track team and earned a place in the Niagara Falls High School Hall of Fame for his accomplishments on the football field. He continued his education at Northeastern University, where he joined the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC), was promoted to first lieutenant during his senior year and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business management.

Following graduation Stan continued his Army career - both in active duty and then as a reserve officer - working in the transportation and finance divisions. Stan proudly served for over 35 years and retired as a Full Bird Colonel. In addition to his military service, Stan also pursued a civilian career, working for Sylvania and later for Avco/Textron in the Aero Space Production Control Division.

Stan met his beloved wife Barbara (Cusick) Bobek, in 1955 on a ski trip to Cranmore Mountain, NH. They were married in 1958, first living in Virginia and then settling in Wilmington, MA, where they raised their four children. He was a devoted father, always present to cheer on his children and support them through whatever life brought their way.

Stan had a great sense of adventure and a love for travel. An early retirement allowed him and his wife to sell their home, purchase an RV, and spend many years traveling. Together they visited the continental United States, cruised the Caribbean, and traced back their roots through Europe. Stan and his wife eventually settled in Wauchula, FL, where they resided for many years.

A friend to many, Stan was known for his genuine curiosity, warmth and sense of humor. There wasn’t a person he couldn’t strike up a conversation with. He often said his favorite thing in life was meeting new people and listening to their stories. Stan was perpetually busy with his many artistic passions including wood carving, wood burning, stained glass designs, oil painting, and drawing. Stan created many beautiful pieces of art throughout his years. Just prior to his passing, he completed the "Bobek" coat of arms - a piece that his family will cherish for decades to come. When he wasn't working on his art or chatting with neighbors, you could find him doing an early morning workout at his favorite gym and always enjoying the camaraderie he shared with the many friends he had made there.

Stan was a loving and devoted husband to Barbara (Cusick) for 66 years. He was a proud father to Ronald and Lisa (Lombardi) Bobek of Freedom, NH; Kathleen and Paul Fortier of Methuen, MA; Susan and Gregory Candage of Groveland, MA; and Mark and Janine (Bronk) Bobek of Tilton, NH. He was an adoring "Pa" to Tyler Bobek, Rachel Bobek, Nicole Fortier, Danielle Fortier, Greer Candage, Colby Candage, Taylor Leger, and Zachary Bobek.

Stan also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews from both the Bobek and Cusick sides of the family.

In accordance with Stan's wishes there will be no wake or funeral services held. Stan will be laid to rest in a private military service at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mr. Bobek’s Family with his arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you honor Stan's memory with a donation to your favorite charity, or by performing a random act of kindness in his memory, carrying on his spirit of warmth and connection.
