NEWBURYPORT, Mass. - Sarah Elizabeth Wood, 66, formerly of Wallingford and Madison, Connecticut, passed away on November 12, 2025. Born on July 1, 1959, she was the third of seven children of the late Charles and Helen Wood.
Sarah grew up in Wallingford, where she excelled in the public schools and cherished summers at the family's beach house on Long Island Sound. Those days were filled with swimming, water-skiing, biking, and the joy of shoreline living.
After attending college in Washington, D.C., Sarah spent several years in Wyoming, embracing the skiing culture she had loved since childhood trips to Vermont. She later returned east, settling in Boston, where she continued her studies and built a distinguished career in banking. Through hard work and perseverance, she rose to become Vice President of Mortgage Banking before retiring.
Sarah's life changed due to a catastrophic injury at her home situated on the Merrimack River. She faced the recovery challenges that followed with remarkable resilience and grace.
Though she valued her peace and privacy, Sarah remained devoted to her family. She rarely missed holidays or summer weekends at the family's beach house in Maine, where she delighted in the company of her family and the opportunity to see al her nieces and nephews grow. She especially enjoyed evenings of spirited card games with ever- changing rules, often winning (with her sharp mind and ability to count cards)-unless, as she often joked, she was hindered by a "terrible partner."
Sarah was predeceased by her parents and by her brothers, Brendan and Bobby Wood. She is survived by her siblings: Paula Wood and her husband Bill Mahoney of Kennebunkport, ME; Carolyn Wood and her husband Thomas Blackburn of Portland, ME; Libby Wood Cassat of Yarmouth, ME; and Peter Wood and his wife Linda of Madison, CT. She also leaves behind beloved nieces, nephews, and grandnephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Newburyport, Mass., with interment to follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Twomey, LeBlanc & Conte Funeral Home.
Sarah will be remembered for her intellect, humor, and devotion to family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
