Sandra B. (Brown) Lepore

Sandra Brown Lepore passed away on December 1, 2021 at home in Newburyport. 

Sandy was born on July 6, 1940 and grew up in Levittown on Long Island. She made her way to St Lawrence University, where she studied history and made friends that would be essential for the rest of her life.  She moved to New York City and then to Boston where she met Joseph Lepore and married. Their daughter Alexandra was born in1969.

Sandy always loved art and despite having no formal training, started buying and selling late 19th and early 20th century American and Euproean art out of her home and the back of her Saab.  She opened Lepore Fine Arts in Newburyport in 1986, first on Federal Street, then Hortons Yard and lastly Liberty Street before she retired and closed in 2018.  Sandy was a successful and respected art dealer and became the premier authority on Laura Coombs Hills, a Newburyport artist who became near and dear to her heart.

In addition to art, Sandy loved to travel, do anything physically active, visit with friends and drink wine, shop at TJMaxx, and walk the beach of Plum Island.  She also coveted a good grilled hot dog. Mostly, she loved to spend time with her family; daughter Alex and son in law Greg and her 4 grandchildren, who affectionately called her “ Nonna”;  Ethan, Griffin, Amelia and Duncan. Oh and her grand dog Millie, the Bernedoodle.

A celebration of Sandy will be planned for 2022. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Ms. Lepore’s family with her arrangements.
