Sandra J. Dodge died on Sunday evening, August 8, 2021 surrounded by family. Sandy was born in Newburyport on March 2,1937 to William and Mary Witley. Raised and educated in Newburyport, Sandy was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School and Chandler Secretarial School in Boston.
Sandy was a devoted wife to Edward Dodge and a loving mother of five children: Steve, Geoff, Pam, Chris, and Tim. She worked for 20 years as the Assistant Assessor in the Newburyport City Hall. She and Ed then owned and ran the Pierce Gallery in Portsmouth. She continually balanced her responsibilities, demonstrating an incredible work ethic as well as dedication to her children. She served as a library aide at the Nock Middle School during its inaugural years, acted as Cub Scout den mother, was the consummate fan and cheerleader for all of her children, forging the way for future hockey moms. She cherished time with her family at the beach, on the boat, and at the family camp on Sebago Lake.
Sandy and Ed spent many wonderful years living the life of snowbirds, migrating between Naples, FL and Newburyport. Most of all, Sandy loved sharing a glass of wine with family and friends. She will be remembered hosting gatherings, playing card games, and sharing a good story and many laughs.
Sandy is predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Ed Dodge. She loved and was extraordinarily proud of her children and grandchildren. She leaves behind her five children and their families: Stephen and wife Kate, Geoffrey and wife Nora, Pamela Rugg and husband Martin, Christopher and wife Anne, and Timothy and wife Carrie, as well as her grandchildren Oliver, William, Claudia, Abigail, Brandon, Allyson, Arianna, Benjamin, and Jack, and her great grandchild Max Edward. Sandy’s life epitomized devotion to her family and friends.
At Sandy’s request, a private gathering of family is being held at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home. A celebration of life will occur on a future date.
