Ruth W. (Drown) Sullivan

Ruth W. Sullivan, 93, a lifelong resident of Newburyport, died at her home Thursday morning August 25, 2022 with her loving son by her side. She was born on June 4, 1929 and was a graduate of Newburyport High School. Shortly following her graduation Ruth married the late John L. Sullivan, Jr. on April 1, 1951 and the couple started their family. 

Ruth was employed almost her entire working career at Fowle’s News. She dedicated over 40 years to running the Newsstand until it’s closing. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting, especially prayer shawls, and braiding rugs. She an avid New England Sports fan, she especially enjoyed watching the Red Sox everyday they played. Ruth was a former member of the Ladies of Christopher at Immaculate Conception Church in Newburyport.

Ruth is survived by her son, Michael T. Sullivan of Newburyport; grandchildren, Michael J. Sullivan and his wife Danielle of GA, Jennifer Figueroa, and Jason Dearborn; great grandchildren, Bella, Baylie, Beckett, Justin, Kenzie, Lexie, Matthew, Logan, and Paisley; son in law, Peter Dearborn; as well as several nieces. In addition to her husband Ruth was predeceased by her daughter Ruthanne Dearborn; and siblings, Doris Waddell, Melner Drown, and Robert Drown.

The family would like to thank Dr. Saira Naseer for her years of caring for Ruth, Jane Kiggins and the staff at Port Healthcare for helping Ruth get back home,  and Elara Caring VNA and Hospice for their care and support at Ruth’s home.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday September 2, 2022 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. THERE IS NO LONGER ANY PARKING AVAILABLE BEHIND THE FUNERAL HOME PER ORDER OF THE CITY OF NEWBURYPORT. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday September 3, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Church followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, both in Newburyport.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Ruth’s name to Immaculate Conception Church 42 Green St. Newburyport, MA 01950.
