Ruth E. Connors

Ruth E. Connors, 88, a resident of Newburyport, died January 6, 2018 at Country Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Newburyport. Ruth was born on September 12, 1929 in Newburyport to the late John and Catherine (Brennan) Connors. She was a graduate of Immaculate Conception School and Newburyport  High School, class of 1946. Soon after her graduation Ruth pursued her vocation and became a Dominican Nun. She was stationed in Louisville Kentucky where she was a Teacher, Principal, and Superior for almost 20 years. In 1969 she left the convent to return home to Newburyport to assist her mother and brother after the death of her father. 

Ruth taught 2nd grade at the Kelly School in Newburyport for 25 years until her retirement in 1994. She was a proud recipient of the Edward G. Molin Award for Teaching Excellence. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family and friends especially when they were dining out. She always loved being around the children in the family, watching them as they grew up and had children of their own.. 

Ruth is survived by her first cousins Edward J. Brennan, Jr. and his partner Judith Jester of Newburyport, June Brennan McGregor and her husband James of Newburyport; and Kathleen Brennan Dockham and her husband Robert of Stratham, NH. along with many of their children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents Ruth was predeceased by her brother John Connors, Jr. and cousins, Pauline Patten, Daniel Brennan and  Malcolm & Walter Shute.

At Ruth's request there will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM on Tuesday January 9, 2018 at The Immaculate Conception Church, 42 Green Street in Newburyport, followed by burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, also in Newburyport.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Ruth’s name to The Immaculate Conception Church 42 Green St. Newburyport, MA 01950, or to the charity of one’s choice.
