Roger J. Cyr, 84, a resident Winter Haven, Florida, formerly of Amesbury MA and Freedom NH, passed away peacefully Sunday December 5, 2021 in Florida after a lengthly battle with Alzheimer’s. He was surrounded by his family and his little buddy Ace.
He was born on May 3, 1937 to Cesaire and Jeannette (Leger) Cyr in Amesbury.
Roger was a graduate of Amesbury High School class of 1955. After high school he studied Electrical Engineering at Wentworth Institute in Boston .
Roger proudly served in the United States Air Force from February 1959 to November 1963, as a radar technician.
While raising his family he kept himself very busy. Often building outside skating rinks in the backyard or tapping maple trees to make syrup all while running from hockey and figure skating competitions. There was nothing he was afraid to fix or build. He was very talented and frequently shared his knowledge with everyone especially his children and grandchildren.
Roger retired from Lucent Technologies where he was an Electronic Technician in 2000 at which time began his traveling adventures with Sandra.
Roger was an avid golfer and in retirement played daily at his winter home, Carefree Country Club in Winter Haven, often playing with his children and grandchildren.
Roger leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Sandra (Toothaker) as well as 6 children, Roger Jr. and his wife Anne, of Key West FL, Lisa and her husband Sam Wilmot, of Amesbury, Robert and his wife Heather, of Winter Haven, FL, Geoffrey and his wife Andrea, of E Kingston, NH, Jon and his wife Kim, of Freedom, NH, Jo-Ann and her husband Jeffrey Knowles, of Salisbury.
He was the proud Grandfather of 9 granddaughters and 2 grandsons Tiffany Cyr, Jacqueline Cyr, Jordann Firman (Edward) Gabrielle Wilmot (Bill), Taylor Cyr (Danika), Kaleigh Richardson (Alexander), Emily Cyr(Clint), Megan Cyr (Jesse), Hayden Cyr, Olivia Motsis (Travis), Shelby Cyr (David). In 2021 he welcomed his first two great grandchildren, Michael Cyr and Margaret Richardson. He also leaves behind his sisters, Wilma Dunning, Stratham NH, Nancy Bull (Robert), Jonesboro, GA and Carol Benson (Dan), Wichita, KS. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Godson’s George Dunning Jr, Texas, Scott Cyr, Idaho, Keith Dunning Massachusetts. Roger leaves his lifelong best friend/cousin/brother Richard Cyr of Winter Haven, Fl.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday December 17, 2021 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St, Newburyport, MA 01950. THERE IS NO LONGER ANY PARKING AVAILABLE BEHIND THE FUNERAL HOME PER ORDER OF THE CITY OF NEWBURYPORT. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday December 18, 2021 at Immaculate Conception Church in Newburyport, followed by burial at Mount Prospect Cemetery in Amesbury. Roger’s family has requested that masks be worn during the calling hours and Mass.
