Robert Umanita Obituary

Robert A. Umanita, 63, a resident of Salisbury, MA, died suddenly Friday October 26, 2018 of a heart attack while bow hunting at his family camp in Gilmanton Ironworks, NH, one of his favorite pastimes. He was born in Everett, MA on January 18, 1955 to the late Charles Umanita and Rose (Santagate) Barnes. Bob was raised and educated in Peabody, MA graduating from Peabody Vocational High School in 1973, where he played hockey, baseball, and football. Following his graduation Bob established his own Electrical Business for a time, eventually becoming a Master Electrician as well a licensed General Contractor, before joining the IBEW Local 103. He was employed for many years with the Union until his retirement in 2013.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman and loved spending time at the camp with his family. He was a skilled fisherman who tied his own flies, and an excellent hunter that did his own taxidermy. He also had a passion for classic cars, and was in the process of restoring two 1955 Chevys.  Bob’s favorite sport was hockey, which he continued playing as an adult.  Bob loved to give back and was a natural mentor to others, coaching Triton Youth Hockey for many years and teaching Karate at the United Martial Arts Center in Peabody in the 70’s.

Bob was a loving husband and father, and a best friend to all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years Sandra (Brodbine) Umanita of Salisbury; children, Robert M. Umanita of Salisbury, Shannon Umanita and her fiancé Jacob Rogers of Salisbury; his treasured granddaughter, Claire Rogers; brother, Charles Umanita and his wife Lorie of Rowley; stepfather, Jack Barnes of Las Vegas; nieces and nephew, Danielle and Claudia Umanita, Joshua and Tahra Brodbine; sisters-in-law Deborah Brodbine and Teresa Brodbine; brother-in-law Michael Brodbine and his wife Anju; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
