Robert A. Tuxbury, Sr. passed away on April 15, 2020 in Newburyport under hospice care, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Newburyport on October 24, 1931 to the late Fred and Lois (DeMinico) Tuxbury. Robert was a graduate of Newburyport High School Class of 1949 and following his graduation he enlisted in the US Air Force and served our country proudly during the Korean War, as a Crew Chief on a B36 Peacemaker. He was stationed in London England, and it was there that he met his future wife Sylvia Harris at a local dance to welcome the US military.
Robert was employed by several local automotive repair shops before starting Tuxbury Transmissions in 1965 until his retirement in 2010. He loved nothing more than spending time with his grandsons, and in their younger years he enjoyed taking them to playgrounds, long car rides, and tending to his garden.
Robert is survived by his daughter, MaryAnn Tuxbury of Newburyport; grandsons, Derek and Brendan Waz; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Robert was predeceased by his wife of 51 years Sylvia Tuxbury, children, Robert A. Tuxbury, Jr., and infant Kathleen Ann Tuxbury, and siblings, Norma Jean York and James Tuxbury.
Due to the current state of health affairs there will be a private graveside service for Robert’s family. A graveside memorial with military honors will be held at a later date. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting his family with his funeral arrangements.
