Robert Neil "Bob" OBrien, 65, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2023, surrounded by his immediate family. Born on November 16, 1957, in Newburyport, MA, he was the son of the late Robert and Gertrude OBrien.
Bob was a proud graduate of Newburyport High School and The College of Holy Cross. He dedicated 20 years of his life to financial services, making significant contributions at Fidelity Investments in Boston. Known for his innovative and operational expertise, Bob later embarked on an entrepreneurial journey, delving into real estate and technology investments. Locally, he was recognized and respected for his unwavering support of small and mid-sized businesses.
On September 10, 1983, in Chelmsford, MA, Bob married the love of his life, Jane. The couple recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary, marking four decades of love, partnership, and shared memories.
Beyond his professional achievements, Bob was an avid golfer, often seen enjoying rounds with close friends. His culinary skills were unparalleled, making him a fantastic cook who loved to delight family and friends with his dishes. Above all, he was a dedicated family man, always putting the needs and happiness of his loved ones first.
In the words of Robert Frost, a poet Bob admired:
"The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep."
Bob lived a life full of promises kept, love shared, and memories cherished. He is survived by his wife, Jane OBrien; his son, Doyle OBrien; his daughter, Allie OBrien; and his son-in-law, Ryan Fortsch. To all of them, Bob was their biggest fan, always supporting them in every endeavor and milestone. He is also survived by his brother, John OBrien and wife, Lisa; brother-in-law Jimmy Doyle and wife Dawn; sister-in-law Julie Sallah and husband Steve; sister-in-law Annie Anderson and husband Brian; sister-in-law Kathy Cullen and husband Peter; and many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law Mary Wilson.
A Funeral Mass in honor of Bob will be held at the Immaculate Conception in Newburyport, MA, at 12:00 PM on Friday, October 6, 2023. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mr. OBrien’s family with his arrangements
