In Loving Memory of Robert “Bob” McCune
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” McCune on February 27, 2025, in Newburyport, MA. He was 85 years old. A beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Bob was known for his quick wit and fun-loving sense of humor. Whether making you laugh or playfully rolling your eyes, he had a knack for bringing fun, and entertainment to those around him.
Bob grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and was a lifelong Boston sports fan. The Patriots were his favorite and he never missed a game. He proudly served six years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Macon before settling in Massachusetts, where he spent over 50 years. Eventually, he made Fort Myers, Florida, his home. Bob had a distinguished career at Polaroid Corporation and, in retirement, found fulfillment working with nonprofits including The House for Little Wanderers and The Ronald McDonald house. But not before indulging his adventurous spirit as a quasi-cruise director "Captain" for Key West Excursions, where he never met a stranger he didn’t like—or share a laugh with.
His friends and loved ones in Florida became his second family, a bond he deeply cherished. A proud member of the American Legion, Bob served as Commander in Fort Myers and was always ready to lend a hand. Yet, at his core, he was first and foremost an Irishman. With a song forever on his lips, he had a talent for turning any gathering into a singalong, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and camaraderie.
Bob is survived by his children, Joy McCune and her husband, Vincent Pizzi; Jill Borek and her husband, Scott Borek; Robert McCune and his wife, Stacey McCune; and his stepdaughter, Nicole Leone. He was the adored grandfather of Mackenzie Enos, Sophia Enos, Jack Forrest, Jacob Forrest, Emma Forrest, Cooper McCune, and Maxwell McCune. He also leaves behind his former wife and lifelong friend, Norma Mann; his sister, Jeanne McCune Connery; his brother, Jack McCune, and his wife, Cathy McCune; as well as his much-loved nephews, John McCune, Mark McCune, Christopher McCune, and Eric McCune. He also leaves behind his life long friends, Stanley Straube and Richard Rudnicki who came to visit him and take him out weekly. Lastly, he is survived by his partner and love, Ilona Menzel, with whom he shared many wonderful years traveling the world. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Anne McCune, and brother-in-law Peter Connery.
A celebration of life will be held on March 4, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. Friends and family are invited to gather to honor and celebrate Bob’s remarkable life.

We love you forever, Dad.
