Robert "Bob" Arnold Lewis

Robert "Bob" Arnold Lewis, 95, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his girls, on June 27, 2026. His 95 years on this earth were a testament to a life well lived.

Born on October 30, 1930, in Providence, Rhode Island, Bob was the second oldest of five children born to the late Wellington Lewis and Jessie (Arnold) Lewis Parker. He grew up in East Providence, Rhode Island, where he developed a strong work ethic that would define his life. From an early age, he worked setting up bowling pins, peddling ice, repairing television antennas, and later worked for R.C.A. and Narragansett Electric before beginning his career with Massachusetts Electric Company.

Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a radio repair seaman. In recognition of his service, he was awarded the Navy Occupation Service Medal (European Clasp), and National Defense Service Medal.

Following his military service, Bob attended Roger Williams College, earning his associate degree in engineering, followed by Northeastern University, where he earned his degree in electrical engineering. He then joined Massachusetts Electric Company, where he enjoyed a distinguished 33-year career, retiring as General Supervisor of Field Engineers.

On November 14, 1953, Bob married the love of his life, Barbara Lewis. Together they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage, building a loving family that grew to include two daughters, two granddaughters, and two cherished great-grandsons.

Before moving to Newburyport, Massachusetts, Bob lived in Beverly for 40 years. He was a proud Mason for more than 60 years and was actively involved with the Sons of Norway, the Saturday Night Couples Club, and the Cove Community Center. Throughout his life, he was a devoted member of several churches, including Dane Street Church, Second Congregational Church, and Holy Trinity Church.

For more than 25 years, Bob was a faithful member of Central Congregational Church in Newburyport, where he served on numerous committees. He was instrumental in the church's Saturday Outreach Meal Program and was affectionately known as the "Chief Dishwasher." He treasured the friendships he made within his church family, especially Susie Bajko and the late Diane Legg.

Bob found joy in life's simple pleasures. He was an avid golfer who cherished the camaraderie of his fellow "Blown Fuses" golfing group, an avid cribbage player, an enthusiastic reader, and loved playing the organ and listening to music.

Above all, Bob was the proud patriarch of the Lewis family and a devoted, loving, and supportive father whose unwavering commitment to his family never faltered. He will be remembered for his kindness, humility, generosity, quiet faith, and the spirit of service he shared with everyone he met.

In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, Barbara, Bob was predeceased by his brothers, Edward and Arthur Lewis; his sisters-in-law, Phyllis and Rosemary Lewis; and his beloved niece and goddaughter, Wendy Lewis King.

He leaves behind his loving family, including his sisters, Donna (William) Norton and Maribeth (Mike) Gasiorek; his daughters, Cheryl Lewis-Gilpatrick (Peter Cataford) and Marcia Lewis; his granddaughters, Kelly (Jacob) Thom and Kaitlin (Reini) Perez; his beloved great-grandsons, Kelton and Kallan Thom; his goddaughter and niece, Lori Lewis-Smith; and many other nieces and nephews.

Bob's legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the community he faithfully served, and the countless lives he touched through his compassion, steadfast faith, unwavering integrity, and generous heart.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Bob's life at Central Congregational Church in Newburyport, Massachusetts, on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. The service will be livestreamed on the Central Congregational Church – UCC – Newburyport MA Facebook page. Family and friends who are unable to attend are invited to join the service online. A private burial will follow the service. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mr. Lewis’ family with his arrangements.
