Robert Lee DeBoer, 88, a longtime resident of Newburyport and more recently Georgetown died Thursday morning October 12, 2023 at Country Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Newburyport. He was born on November 5, 1934 in Newport News, Virginia to the late Margaret (Wimmer) Phillips and Henry Class DeBoer.
Robert was raised and educated in Newport News, before enlisting in the US Navy where he served our country proudly during the Korean War. Following his service, Robert owned and operated several service stations over the years. A Citgo Station in Peabody, a Gulf Station in Danvers, before his 30+ year employment at Buddy’s Garage in Revere. He was also a Certified Hyundai Technician employed at Danvers Hyundai. Robert concluded his working career working for Ozark Canopy until his retirement.
Robert was an avid NASCAR and Auto Racing Fan, as well as an amateur photographer. Those 2 passions led him to Star Speedway where he owned the Souvenir Shop and was also the Track Photographer for many years. He, along with his late brother-in-law Chuck Wrest, owned the #34 Late Model that competed at Pine, Star and Lee Speedway. He was a New England Patriots and Red Sox Fan and enjoyed watching the team events on TV.
Robert is survived by his children, Henry DeBoer and his wife Shirley of Milton, NH, Patty Banks and her husband Robert of Georgetown, MA, Sandy Titus and her husband Wayne of Newmarket, NH, and Kathy Kelley of Pittsfield, NH; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Ruth Simkins of Hampton, VA; Sister-in-Law Lois Reynolds of Brattleboro, VT; Eileen Flaherty; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Michael DeBoer and his brother Henry DeBoer.
Family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Tuesday October 17, 2023 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. His Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home following the calling hours at 11:00. Burial after the service with military honors will be held in the Veterans Section of Old Hill Cemetery in Newburyport.
