Richard Cataldo Obituary

Richard J. Cataldo, longtime resident of Newburyport, passed away November 29, 2020, of natural causes, at the age of 91.

A graduate of Boys’ High in New York City, he served proudly in the U.S. Marines at Camp Lejeune and Quantico during his tenure.

Upon leaving military service, Richard worked at Electric Boat in New London, CT. and later Raytheon in Andover, MA., companies focused on computer development of missile navigation and guidance systems. He later worked for Chase Shawmut in Newburyport.

He was graduated from Salem State College with a degree in business education.

Prior to retirement, he taught English at Whittier Regional School and English to foreign language students at Action for Boston Community Development.

Upon retirement, he served on the Newburyport Planning Board and the Board of Directors for the Salvation Army.

He was a devoted husband of 69 years to Constance J. Cataldo, and father of four children: daughters Janet (husband Jack-deceased) and Christine (husband Paul), sons Richard (wife Barbara) and Frank, (wife Darlene) and grandsons Christopher, Robert, James, William and Andrew. His parting personal message was: “Being a good husband and father will always be the most important thing in my life”.

A private memorial service will be held in the future for family and friends. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mr. Cataldo’s family with his arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.
