Raymond G. Babcock, 74, of Newburyport and formerly of Beverly, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2023 after a long battle with cancer. Born in Cambridge on June 28, 1949, he is the son of the late George Babcock and Alice (Healy). Ray grew up in Beverly Farms and graduated Beverly High School in 1967. He spent two years in the Army Reserve and earned an Associate’s Degree at North Shore Community College in 1969. Ray went on to gain employment at Eastman Gelatine in Peabody, where he worked for more than 30 years.
Ray is the soulmate and devoted husband of Deborah Babcock of Ipswich. Ray met Debbie in August of 1970. After a loving courtship they were married on September 8, 1973.
Ray enjoyed life. He was an avid reader. He loved listening to music from the 50’s and 60’s. He was a die-hard Boston sports fan and particularly loved his Bruins. He enjoyed camping and hiking. He loved the beach and spent winters in Clearwater Florida with his wife and friends. He cherished holidays with his family, summer cookouts, neighborhood block parties, and most importantly he treasured time with his grandchildren.
Ray is preceded in death by his loving parents, his sister Patricia Kelly of Maryland, and his beloved grandson Christian Babcock of West Newbury.
In addition to his wife Deborah, he is survived by his son Brian Babcock and wife Elise Babcock (Roberts) of West Newbury and their children Hannah and Cameron; his daughter Christina Dhimitri (Babcock) and her husband Kenneth Dhimitri of North Reading, and their children Joseph, Joshua and Jack; his daughter Kelly Babcock of Newburyport and her children Skye, Cruz and Dante; and his siblings, William, Robert and Ellen Babcock each of Florida. He also leaves nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
A viewing will be held for Ray on Wednesday, August 30, from 4:00-8:00PM at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home, 193 High Street Newburyport MA. Family and friends are also invited to a celebration of Ray’s life on Thursday, August 31, at 10AM at the Funeral Home, burial will be private at a later date.
