R. Stuart “Stu” Frank of Amesbury passed away on April 30 after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born January 26, 1958 in Beverly to the late Charles B. Frank and Betsy Frank Howard. He grew up in Newburyport and graduated from Newburyport High School and, later, the College of Culinary Arts at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, RI.
Stu is survived by his mother, Betsy Howard; his sister Karen (Mela) Frank, her husband Alan, his niece Beth and his nephew Nathaniel; his brother Charles B. Frank, Jr., his wife Ellen, and two nieces, Rebecca and Tracy.
His greatest passions included dogs (especially golden retrievers), being on the water and fishing. He was always at his happiest when helping others. He was involved with the early training of puppies for NEADS World Class Assistance Dogs and helping to identify puppies displaying the traits needed to be successful assistance dogs. Stu was very active as a volunteer at Our Neighbors’ Table in Amesbury, contributing his culinary experience to their weekly Wednesday Dinners.
Stu faced a number of challenges during his life, but his indomitable spirit and strength were key to his working through them. Among his greatest gifts were his wicked sense of humor, his big heart and generous spirit, and his strong commitment to family, friends and community. He was always the “can do and go to” guy who could be counted upon whenever anyone needed assistance or support. He is dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
The Twomey, LeBlanc & Conte Funeral Home, 193 High Street, Newburyport MA 01950 is assisting Mr. Frank’s family. Mr. Frank requested there be no services. Burial will be a private family gathering at a future date.
