Peter R. Sharkey, 82, of Newburyport, passed away on October 22, 2023 at Country Manor (AdviniaCare Country Center) in Newburyport after a period of declining health with family by his side.
Born in Lawrence, MA on December 26, 1940, he was the son of the late William and Hazel (Anderson) Sharkey. He was the foster son of the late Carl and Dorothy Olson of Merrimac. Pete is predeceased by his first wife Jolene (Turner) Sharkey; children Peter Sharkey Jr. and Roxie LaValley; brothers Richard Sharkey and Frank Sharkey.
Pete was educated in the Merrimac school system. He was a skilled machinist and was a longtime employee of Towle Silversmith as well as Kado Machine. After retirement, he enjoyed spending his summers at Tuxbury Campground and driving the bus for Atria Senior Living.
Pete enjoyed taking trips to Fenway Park and was an avid fan of all New England sports teams; people would often compliment him on his Red Sox Championship tattoos. He loved playing the drums and listening to music. He will be remembered for his work ethic, gregarious personality, and his wicked sense of humor; he was the comedian of every outing and would keep his friends and family in constant laughter.
Pete is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Patricia (Currier) Sharkey; brother David Sharkey; sister Carol (Sharkey) Citak; sisters-in-laws Lucille Sharkey, Linda Sharkey, Joan Cook and her husband Richard. He also leaves behind daughter-in-law Anne Marie Sharkey; stepson Kevin Kozuchowsk and his wife Dawn, stepdaughter Brenda Cronin; grandchildren Cheryl (Kozuchowski) Jones and her husband Ryan, Jennie (Kozuchowski) Thurlow and her husband Chris, Cassie Jordan and her partner Jake Patch, Macey LaValley, Kelly Sharkey, Ryan Sharkey, Cory Sharkey, James Hargreaves and Kayleigh Alexander; Great-grandchildren Hunter and Savannah Thurlow, Connor Jones, and Zander Patch.
Family and friends may call from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM on Monday October 30, 2023 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. His Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM in the Funeral Home, followed by burial at Highland Cemetery.
