Paul Alexander McLeod, Jr. passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025 after a lengthy illness. He was born on February 2, 1948, to Paul Sr. and Mildred (Furbush) McLeod of Haverhill and later relocated to Newburyport.
After graduating from NHS, Paul served in the U.S. Air Force in Alexandria, Louisiana before returning to Newburyport to run the family business, Woodbury McLeod Jewelers. Through the business, Paul played in and sponsored a local men’s softball team. He also enjoyed playing in a men’s golf league. Once the business closed, Paul spent the rest of his career in sales, specifically prescription safety eyewear. In his younger years, Paul instilled a love of skiing in his family and enjoyed being outside meticulously tending to his lawn. He loved music and enjoyed following sports of any kind, especially where his grandchildren were involved, and all Boston-based teams. Always quick with a joke, Paul’s sense of humor was intact until the very end.
Paul will be dearly missed by his devoted wife of 56 years, Mary Alice (Reardon) McLeod and his children and their spouses Darren & Kara McLeod of Newburyport and Shannon & Brad Schoonmaker of Reading. Paul’s legacy lives on in his beloved grandchildren for whom he had immense pride: Madeline &Amelia McLeod and Owen, Brooks & Leo Schoonmaker. He is survived by his sister Nancy Jaffarian of Haverhill, his sisters-in-law and their spouses JoAnn & Gordon Shoemake of Athens, TN, Elizabeth & William Pettingell of Newbury, brother-in-law Paul Reardon of Salisbury and several nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his sister Joyce Tilton of Jaffrey, NH and his beloved grand dog Angus.
The family wishes to thank the kind and compassionate staff at AJH for ensuring Paul’s comfort in his final days.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mr. McLeod’s family with his arrangements.
