Patricia Gambarelli Obituary

Gambarelli, Patricia (Dugone) peacefully surrounded by her family on  January 18, 2024, age 95. Beloved wife of the late Rudolph for 59 years.

Loving mother of Robert (Margaret), John (Lynn) and Nina Simmons (Paul).  Cherished grandmother of Kathleen, Patricia MacGregor (Mitchell), Peter and Janna, Alexa and Ian Simmons. Proud great-grandmother of Maeve MacGregor. Loving Godmother for 80 years of Harry Rissetto (Grace) and lifelong best friend of Frances Sidlo for 77 years.

Patricia grew up in Greenwich Village, N.Y., graduated with a degree in chemistry from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in 1949 and then began working on the Colgate campaign for Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals.  In 1954 she married the love of her life Rudy and they settled in Glen Cove, NY for the next 40 years raising their family.  During her time in NY, Pat began teaching cooking classes honoring her Italian heritage & began compiling recipes for her first book ‘Pasta For Men Only’. She served as food and wine editors for several papers, served on the Board of Directors for the New York Association of Cooking Teachers & studied under master chefs, including Giuliano Bugialli, Marcella Hazan & Lidia Bastianich. In 1987, Patricia was chosen by the James Beard Foundation to chair a special dinner to honor Pierre Franey at Maxim’s in NYC.

In 1997 Pat & Rudy retired to Sunset Beach, North Carolina where they made fast friends and organized a Sea Trail Gourmet Group of more than 100 participants which still exists today. The group’s recipes were the inspiration for her second book ‘The Four Seasons of Gourmet Entertaining’.

Patricia’s passions included traveling, teaching, reading, writing, gardening, golfing, volunteering, baking, cooking & entertaining, the arts & theatergoing in NY. But nothing brought her more joy than to be with her family that she loved so dearly. And we have never known a love like hers!

Patricia is now reunited with her husband, Rudy, and her countless loved ones in Heaven.
