Newburyport – Norman J. Ceder Sr. passed away peacefully at Advinia Care of Newburyport on May 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after a short illness. Born in Newburyport, on May 24,1935, Norman was the son of the late Norman Jackson Ceder and Katherine (Healey) Ceder.
Norman lived in Newburyport most of his life. He was a proud graduate of Newburyport High School, class of 1953. It was in Newburyport that Norman met the love of his life, Rita Howard, who has preceded him in death (2004).
Norman continued his education graduating from Boston College, Boston University and Suffolk University with a master’s degree. Norman worked for over 35 years for the IRS. Norman was passionate about politics; he loved a good debate with family and friends. Norman will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather with a knack for telling colorful stories with a boisterous laugh. We will always remember the stories of his childhood growing up on Tremont St in Newburyport.
Norman is survived by his children Norman Ceder Jr., Thomas Ceder, Deborah Ceder of Newburyport, Michael Ceder, his partner Karon Avery of Kingston, NH, Gregory Ceder, his wife Gina Ceder of Haverhill, MA, his two granddaughter’s Kelsey and Emily Ceder. Norman was predeceased by his wife Rita F (Howard) Ceder and brother Donald (Butch) Ceder.
A private graveside service will be held in June at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Newburyport.
