Noeline (Hamm) Kohr – Amesbury, MA
Noeline Hamm Kohr passed away unexpectedly on February 9th, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 16, 1947, in Waterford (Port Láirge), Ireland, to Francis and Josephine Hamm, Noeline carried the heart and spirit of her Irish homeland with her always—warm, witty, and wonderfully strong.
As fate would have it, she met the love of her life, Frank B. Kohr, on a blind date while he was stationed in Madrid, Spain. They shared 59 years of marriage, a bond built on devotion, partnership, and enduring love.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Frank B. Kohr; her three children, Barbara Sullivan and her husband Joe of Groveland, MA; Shannon Dow and her husband George of Austin, Texas; and Brian Kohr and his wife Jenn, of Saugus, MA; and her eight cherished grandchildren, Brendan Sullivan, Patrick Sullivan, Colin Dow, Morgan Sullivan, Erinn Dow, Liam Sullivan, Nicholas Kohr, and Avaleigh Kohr. Also survived by her siblings living in Ireland: Celine Walshe of Waterford, Frankie Hamm of Waterford, Jacinta Morrissey of Tramore, Miriam Keegan of Dublin, Martine O’Dwyer of Waterford and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many beloved friends. Noeline was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Josephine Hamm; her brothers, Nicholas and Richard Hamm; and her sister, Alicia Costellic.
Noeline was a passionate early childhood educator who completed her Montessori Certification in 1974 at St. Nicholas College in London, England. After teaching for many years around the world, she founded the Children's Montessori Center in Danvers, MA, a school that became a second home for countless families on the North Shore. For more than 30 years, she poured her heart into nurturing children with patience, respect, and an unwavering belief in who they could become. To all who knew her, she was more than an educator—she was a steady presence, a gentle guide, and truly a mother to all.
Noeline had many passions, including traveling, music, shopping, art, painting, and singing, and over the years she volunteered, joined many clubs, and took countless classes—always learning something new and always leaving with a new friend. Noeline’s life was defined by love - love for her family, love for children, love for learning, and love for the everyday moments that make life meaningful. Her presence was powerful, her spirit unforgettable, and her legacy will be carried forward by all who were lucky enough to know and love her.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, February 16th, at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home, 193 High Street, Newburyport, MA 01950. Noeline's funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 17th, at Immaculate Conception Church at 42 Green St, Newburyport, MA. Burial will follow the Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Newburyport, MA.
