Nancy Twomey Obituary

Nancy Louise Twomey - Newburyport, MA

Nancy Louise Twomey, age 95, passed away peacefully on February 17th, 2024, surrounded by her family that she loved and cherished. May Nancy Louise rest in eternal peace, embraced by the love and joy she brought to the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her.

Born on September 7th, 1928, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Ruth K. (Diamond) Dorn in Weymouth, MA. Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness and compassion.

A passionate educator, Nancy served as a kindergarten teacher along with her sister Ruth (Dorn) Ryan at Mrs. Boyle’s Kindergarten on Fruit St Newburyport leaving a lasting impact on the lives of countless children. She was also the co-founder of Mrs. Murray's Nursery School, where her nurturing spirit and dedication to education continued to shine. After retirement, Nancy served her family in every regard.

While in her 20’s, Nancy met the love of her life, William (Bill) Twomey. They were married at the Immaculate Conception Church, Newburyport, in 1958. Bill & Nancy, lifelong residents of Newburyport, celebrated 55 years of marriage until he passed in July of 2012. Together, they lived, raised a daughter, and worked in Newburyport. They shared a lifetime of memories and unwavering commitment to each other. Their marriage was a model for the family they raised. Some of Bill and Nancy’s favorite times together were spent Friday nights sharing a meal at the Starboard Galley. Newburyport was truly home and woven into their relationships.

Nancy was not only a devoted wife and partner but also a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Family was at the center of Nancy’s life. Known for her artistic & creative spirit, Nancy created lasting memories by reading books to her grandchildren, sketching tulips, hosting delightful tea parties on the porch, and enjoying special sleepovers together.

Nancy cherished her lifelong friends, Jane (Gerald) Volpone, Carolyn (Joe) O’Keefe and Bev Gulazian.  The O’Keefe’s, Volpone’s and the Twomey’s were lifelong friends.  She spoke often of the many memories they shared together including; birthdays, anniversary’s celebrations and holidays.

One of Nancy’s remarkable qualities was her ability to see the best in everyone. Her positive outlook and kindness touched the hearts of all who knew her. A devoted Catholic and member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Nancy found solace and strength in her faith throughout her life.

Nancy is survived by her loving daughter, Louise Nancy (Twomey) Lingerman, together with her husband Eric of Newburyport. She also leaves behind 3 grandchildren she loved dearly, Katelyn (Oscar) Hernandez of Merrimac, MA, MaKayla Ann Lingerman and Kyle William Lingerman of Newburyport, MA, and 2 great-granddaughters, Kylie & Mackenzie Hernandez of Merrimac, MA.

The family kindly requests any donations be made in memory of Nancy Twomey to the Immaculate Conception Church, 42 Green St. Newburyport, MA 01950 or, if you prefer, plant her favorite flower, tulips, in honor of her memory.
