Nancy Moore of Newburyport passed away peacefully on November 1 with her family by her side. Nancy was born in Beverly, Massachusetts to Frances and Donald Cammett in 1944. She spent her youth in Manchester-By-The-Sea, attending St. John’s Episcopal Church in Beverly Farms, swimming at Singing Beach, and daydreaming by the Tuck’s Point Rotunda. She graduated from Manchester High School.
Nancy moved to Newbury in 1972, where she raised her three daughters. She was a lifelong volunteer and committed philanthropist. She devoted hundreds of hours to many local institutions including the Maritime Museum and the Newburyport Historical Society. Nancy served as President and Secretary of the Newburyport Garden Club and President of the Anna Jacques Hospital Aid Association. She pioneered Great Chef’s Night and the Antiques Show, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars that continue to enrich the entire greater Newburyport community.
Nancy was an athlete. She was a great skier, skiing slopes from the Northeast to Mont Blanc in Chamonix, France. She was a competitive tennis player. She played women’s doubles on the Newburyport Racquet Club travel team for many years and won the Yankee Homecoming Tennis tournament. She was a sailor and enjoyed sailing Down East.
Nancy traveled the world, visiting Japan, France, Mexico, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. She was a terrific bridge teacher and player. Nancy was a fantastic cook and entertainer; her annual Christmas party and seafood chowder are legendary. She loved her fine china and her pearls and her lamps. Nancy liked lobster on her birthday, a scotch on the rocks, strong black coffee and the smell of salt air from her screened porch. She played Trivial Pursuit to the point of obsession. She loved patriotic songs and classic movies and a starched Oxford. Nancy delighted in her grandchildren. She was outgoing and would often greet people with a hearty, “Hellllooo, Dahling!” She was generous and social and lived her life with brio.
Although Nancy’s life, at times, was painful and turbulent, we will remember her as a woman who only wanted to love and be loved. As do we all.
She leaves behind her daughters and their spouses, Rebecca Morey Jordan and Scott Jordan of Storrs, Connecticut, Robin Morey and Dick O’Meara of Sebastian, Florida and Regan Morey of Newburyport, her beloved grandchildren, Samuel Jordan and Margaux Walker Jordan of Chicago, Noah Jordan of San Diego, and Beatrix Jordan of Storrs, Connecticut, and many, many friends, including her dear friend Dorothy Story of Newburyport. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Rexford Morey, and her brothers, Donald, David and Walter.
Her family wishes to thank the staff of Anna Jacques Hospital and of AdviniaCare Country Manor for the care and support they gave during her illness.
Family and friends may call on Friday November 8, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. Services and burial will be private.
