Mildred I. “Millie” Greaney, 99, died Monday afternoon June 21, 2021 at Port Healthcare in Newburyport. She was born in Newburyport on November 24, 1921 to the late Simeon and Mary (Knox) Gagnon.
Millie was a loving, caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother! She had a warm personality and a great sense of humor. She touched so many lives with her kindness, understanding and enthusiasm while teaching Kindergarten for over 29 years at the Plains School in Salisbury, MA. Millie was always delighted when meeting a former student and making time to have a chat.
After retiring in 1980, she spent her winters in Barefoot Bay, Florida and her summers between her home in Salisbury, MA and Alton Bay, NH, entertaining her family and friends. While in Florida, she was very active as president of the Barefoot Bay Singles Club, a member of the Merry Makers fun time band - lasting 20 years, a volunteer teacher’s aide at the Pelican Elementary School in Sebastian and as a member of the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program. When home in Salisbury, she was active at the Salisbury Senior Center and often visited the Salisbury Elementary School.
Millie enjoyed traveling in the United States as well as abroad. She was often heard saying “it’s later than you think’, encouraging people to do things they often thought about doing but had not.
She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
