Michael David Crowley, 63, passed away in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on April 17, 2025 with his sister, Maureen and brother, Mark by his side. He lived an adventurous life after graduating from Newburyport High School where he played ice hockey and baseball. He continued his education at Westfield State College and captained the school's ice hockey team.
After graduating from Westfield State College, he and a teammate skated with the Red Star professional hockey team in Yugoslavia for two years; he returned to the United States and taught Physical Education at Amesbury Elementary School. When the position was eliminated, Michael contracted with the American International School system and accepted a teaching position in Athens, Greece. Michael held teaching positions in Tanzania, Africa followed by Thailand and finally Vietnam. He loved teaching and coaching and had a positive impact on many of his students.
Michael came home to Newburyport every summer to renew old and cherished childhood relationships and to reconnect with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mingha and his father, David Crowley. He leaves his mother Mary Crowley and siblings Maureen Crowley of Amesbury, Mark Crowley of Newburyport, Matthew Crowley and his wife Kely of Newburyport, Martin Crowley and his wife Samantha of Seattle, WA and Myles Crowley of Nagoya, Japan. He is also survived by nieces Kelsey, Meaghan, Caroline, Lily, Keonii and nephews Jack and Patrick and his wife Jenna.
Michael's celebration of life mass will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 10:30 am at the Immaculate Conception Church, 42 Green St. Newburyport, MA, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home of Newburyport is assisting Mr. Crowley's family with his arrangements.
