Maureen A. Lavallee, 75, of Newburyport passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey M. Lavallee and his wife, Carrie of Newbury; her two daughters, Jessica L. Kenny of Newbury and Gina M. Lavallee of West Brookfield; brother Stephen Gibbons; her sisters Cathy Gibbons, Franny Gibbons, Rita Gibbons and Ellen Kelleher; three grandchildren, Allison, Declan, and Matthew; many nieces and nephews; One brother, James, predeceased her.
She was born and raised in Worcester, the daughter of the late James F. Gibbons, Jr. and Rita M. (Moriarty) Gibbons. Maureen was proud of her Irish heritage, enjoyed her Worcester community in her younger years and was a U.S Army Veteran. She was a dedicated public servant for the United States Postal Service (USPS) for more than thirty years. Maureen was a letter carrier in Worcester for many years and then worked at the USPS Central Massachusetts Processing and Distribution Center in Shrewsbury where she took great pride in her work and also making sure her coworkers had a copy of the latest crossword puzzle or Soduku in time for coffee break. She liked to explore the New England Coastline with her children and always wanted to see what was around the next corner and down the next road. On these adventures, you could depend on Maureen wearing her favorite color pink, enjoying a Cherry Coke and feeding a large flock of seagulls. Her greatest joy was time spent with family, especially with her grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting her family with arrangements and a private ceremony will be held at a later date.
