Mary Murphy Obituary

Mary J. (Cutter) Murphy, 82, passed away at Anna Jaques Hospital Friday morning January 7, 2022. She was born on July 24, 1939 in Newburyport to the late Helen (McDermott) and John F. Cutter, Jr. Mary was raised and educated in Newburyport and was a graduate of Newburyport High School.

Following her graduation Mary married the late Gary E. Murphy and the couple soon started their family. 

She was employed for Chase & Lunt Insurance as an Agent for over 35 years until her retirement in 2006. 

Over the years Mary travelled the world and enjoyed many trips with her High School friends. She was also an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, never missing a game. A private person by nature spending time with her family was most important to her.

Mary is survived by her children, Thomas Murphy and his wife Jody of Newburyport, Paula Murphy-Roux and her husband George of Stuart, FL, Gary “Mike” Murphy and his wife Terri of Hampton, NH, and Melissa Vespa and her husband Jon of Newburyport; grandchildren, Colin, Gary, Ashley, Katie, Molly, and Peter; 3 great grandchildren; her twin sister, Joanne Stanwood and her husband Forrest of Newburyport; sister in law Barbara Cutter of Newburyport; and several nieces and nephews. in addition to her husband, Mary was predeceased by her brother John F. Cutter III.

Services and burial will be private. A Celebration of her Life will be announced at a later date. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mrs. Murphy’s family with her funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made in Mary’s name to Merrimack Valley Hospice at Home Health Foundation Attn: Community Engagement 360 Merrimack Street, Building 9 Lawrence, MA 01843.
