Mary Marsden Obituary

On May 25, 2022, Mary E. Marsden passed away after a brave battle with cancer.

Throughout her life she was a valiant and courageous woman. In a time when women were trying to find their place and voice in this world, 50 years ago, Mary took the lead, renovated and developed 11 small summer cabins on Beach Road in Salisbury and turned it into a year-round 22 unit motel and cottage complex called the  Beach Grove Cabins.

She was admired for her tenacity and resilience. Her warm smile welcomed those from near and far and if you were a traveler, you could trust she was going to make sure your room was clean, and you enjoyed your stay. In the world of business, she was sharp and shrewd and loved cajoling and collaborating with others in the community.

In 1955 she was bonded into the United States from Newfoundland, Canada by her sister Ethel Hoyt. Mary was one of the younger children in a family of 17. She proudly earned her United States citizenship and kept her Irish heritage and Newfoundland roots alive, sharing her traditions with all who knew and loved her, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren through her harmonica and accordion, which she loved to play, her stories, Newfoundland folklore, music, and dancing.

Mary is survived by her three children, Diane Geyer of Saco, Maine, Milon “Chuck” Marsden of Hampton, NH, and David and Cassie Marsden of Raymond, NH, her grandchildren Michael Geyer of Derry, NH, and his three children, Adam Geyer and his wife Ashley and their daughter in Stowe, Vermont, Chad and Amanda Marsden of Hampton, NH and in remembrance Jake and Tiana Marsden. She also leaves her sister Florence, her husband Mike, their daughter and her family, still residing in Newfoundland, Canada.
