Marilyn Goodwin Obituary

Marilyn “Rusty” Annie Goodwin, 89, of Newburyport, MA, passed away peacefully at High Pointe House in Haverhill, MA, on July 16, 2025, with her loving husband and children by her side.

She was born on September 14, 1935, to Samuel Russell and Bertha (Milton) Russell, in Newbury, MA.  One of eleven children, Marilyn graduated from Newburyport High School, class of 1954, and was active in sports (basketball, softball), glee club, wrote publications for school sports events, was a member of various class committees, and served as a Hall Marshall (where she met the love of her life).

She married John “Jack” Arthur Goodwin, Jr., on August 5, 1956, and they had five children: John, Cheryl, David, Dana, and Nathan.  Marilyn worked as a Unit Secretary and retired from the Anna Jacques Hospital in 1997.  She found great joy in baking, taking long walks, nurturing her African violets, socializing with her siblings and close friends, going for rides in the country or along the coast, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Her warmth, strength, and unwavering love touched so many over the years.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Jack, of almost 69 years, and her children, John (Jennifer) of Wakefield, MA, Cheryl Twomey of Plymouth, MA, David (Sheila) of Wolfeboro, NH, Dana (Jacqueline) of Chesapeake, VA, and Nathan (Tracy) of Keene, NH, 11 grandchildren (Theresa, Jillian, John, Justin, Marianne, Mickey, Russell, Brian, Ryan, Megan, and Sam), 12 great-grandchildren (Gracie, Jacob Aaron, David, Daniel, Stella, Jacob Riley, Ronan, Victoria, Emma, Dakota, Rya, and Murphy), and her siblings Virginia, Geraldine, and Richard.

She is preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Bertha, siblings Helen, Edward, Norma, Marjorie, Kenneth, Dorothy, Samuel, and beloved daughter-in-law, Sheila (David).

Visitation will be held on July 24, 2025, from 4-6 pm, at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home, 193 High Street, Newburyport, MA.  Interment will follow the next day with a private graveside ceremony for immediate family.
