Marian L. (Cheney) Hegarty

Marian L. Hegarty, 98, passed away Sunday evening January 29, 2023 at Penacook Place in Haverhill. She was born on June 9, 1924 in Georgetown, MA to the late Fred and Catherine (Warren) Cheney and was raised and educated in Newburyport. 

She met and married the late William J. Hegarty, Jr. and the couple settled in Amesbury to raise their family. Marian was primarily a homemaker all her life, as taking care of her family was what gave her the most joy. She was also a child care provider for many families throughout her years, and enjoyed gardening, bingo and family trips to Disney World.

In her younger years, Marian enjoyed going to dances with her husband, especially square dancing, and camping with her family.

Marian is survived by her children, William Hegarty, III of Hampton, Maureen Perron and her husband Steven of Amesbury, and Melissa Deloge and her husband Michael of Salisbury; grandchildren, Kristine Wojcicki and her husband Steven, Kelli Gleason and her husband Jeff, Derek Perron, Jason Deloge, and Hilary Hegarty; great grandchildren, Lindsey and Kaiden Gleason; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her 11 siblings.

Marian’s family would like to thank the staff at the Elizabeth Calsey House in Amesbury for the wonderful care provided to her during her 6 years there, the staff at Penacook Place in Haverhill for their care given to Marian as well.

Services and burial will be private.. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mrs. Hegarty’s family with her arrangements.
