Linda Finnegan Obituary

Linda L. Finnegan, of Newburyport, following a short illness passed on to the Lord on October 23 at Kaplan House in Danvers surrounded by her loving family.  Linda was born in Salisbury on September 1, 1940 daughter of Ernest and Esther Fowler.  She was a graduate of Newburyport High, class of 1958. Married to her husband Leo she dedicated the earlier years of their 61 year marriage to the joyful task of raising their four children. Later on she and Leo in 1981 purchased Leary’s Spirits of Newburyport which they operated until 1999.

Active in the community Linda was a member of Rotary during which time she received Rotary’s Paul Harris Award. She also served on the Board of Directors of Community Service of Newburyport, the Salvation Army, the Newburyport YWCA, and the Swazey Fund. In 2002 Linda and Leo began wintering in Naples, FL where they both enjoyed golf and tennis as well as other activities. Continuing her desire to be involved she also served several terms as a director of Tennis Association of the Glades Country Club.  While at the Glades she was very proud to be the first of her family to score a Hole in One on the golf course.

In addition to her husband Linda is survived by her sons Peter and wife Lisa, Kevin and wife Bettyann, daughter Paula Green and husband Alan, and son-in-law Win Damon. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Cassandra Green and fiancé James Wallace, Dani Green, Amanda Beers and husband Alex, Taylor Knapp and husband Mark, Michela Finnegan, Patrick Finnegan and fiancé Zalekha Shair, Michael Finnegan, Matthew Finnegan, and great granddaughter Emilia Finnegan Patel. She was predeceased by her second daughter Mary Beth Finnegan Damon. Also predeceasing Linda were her parents, her siblings Bert Fowler, Ernest Fowler, and Pamela Buck Sullivan.

Services and burial will be private. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mrs. Finnegan’s family with her funeral arrangements.
