Lesley Fitzgerald, 60, of Newburyport, MA passed away with her family by her side on May 3, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer.
The daughter of Reginald and the late Barbara Dopson of Brandon, England, Lesley was raised in Feltwell, England and moved to the United States with her first husband, the late Patrick Gavin. The pair had two children together and eventually moved to Newburyport, MA. In 2002, Lesley married her husband, David Fitzgerald, and they built a life together in Newburyport.
Lesley is survived by her adoring husband of 19 years, David; her daughter, Kerry Marshall and her husband Bryan Marshall of Salisbury, MA; her son John Gavin and his wife Angela Gavin of Amesbury, MA; and her step-son Justin Fitzgerald of Haverhill, MA, She leaves behind three grandchildren, Joshua Gavin, Emily Gavin, and Gwendalynn Marshall. Lesley is also survived by her brother, Peter Dopson and his wife Lori Dopson of Grand Rapids, MI, and her sister Toni Harris and her husband Craig DeCelles of Great Falls, MT. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, brothers, and sister in-laws.
Lesley was well known in the Newburyport area for her bubbly personality, sense of humor, and ability to put a smile on anyone’s face she met. She was a bartender for many years at various establishments in Newburyport, most recently at the Grog. It was there that she charmed everyone with her British accent and quick wit. Among Lesley’s proudest accomplishments was being a devoted wife, mother, nana, nanny, and friend. You could often find her hosting a dinner party, baking, reading stories to her grandchildren, knitting creations for others, or enjoying a day out with friends. Lesley will be deeply missed by many.

THERE IS NO LONGER ANY PARKING AVAILABLE BEHIND THE FUNERAL HOME PER ORDER OF THE CITY OF NEWBURYPORT. Memorial service will be private for family only.
