Kevin Sweeney Obituary

It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Kevin Joseph Sweeney who died alongside his family in the early morning of August 25th, 2022 at the age of 73. Kevin was a lifelong Newburyport resident, son of Timothy and Viola (Murphy) Sweeney. He most recently resided in the same home his grandparents lived in with beloved wife, Kate. He is survived by his wife, Katherine Sweeney, sisters, Kathy Jacobs and Ellen O’Keefe and her husband Michael O’Keefe, his daughter Michele (McKeon) Stanton and husband Michael Stanton, his five grandchildren, Madison, Molly, Meghan, Nicholas, and Gillian, and countless other family and friends. He is predeceased by his brother Michael Sweeney and son Gregg Sweeney.

Anyone that knew Kevin, loved Kevin and you always knew how he felt about you. Growing up, Kevin was always the one to help someone out and always willing to give it a try. He was one of the hardest working people and always went the extra mile for you. In addition to this, he was funny, always making those around him smile, laugh, and leave with a happy memory. His door was always open and he was always willing to sit down for a beer and talk. An impeccable listener, advice giver, and friend, Kevin made an impact on all that had the privilege to share a moment with him, more if you were lucky. Throughout Kevin’s life he emulated these qualities, always being true to himself.

Kevin had a passion for antique cars, spending his Saturday mornings at Cars and Coffee and frequenting car shows whenever he could. Kevin spent much of his retirement in North Carolina, with family and rebuilding his wife’s family farm for generations to come. Before retiring, Kevin was a proud owner of Napa Auto Parts in Georgetown. He was a great business man and thoughtful with his every move. Prior to Napa, Kevin owned a gas station, was a sales representative for Echlin, and had several other jobs he was equally passionate about.

More than anything, Kevin loved his family. He will be greatly missed and will leave a legacy that will be shared through stories to tell, laughter, and the endless memories we all have of him. Always remember him as a kind, honest, and giving man.
