Kevin Moore Shannahan, beloved son of Brian and Marilyn Shannahan of West Newbury, MA, passed away suddenly on January 6, 2025 at Massachusetts General Hospital, after a brief illness. Kevin was forty-six years old.
Kevin faced multiple physical challenges when he entered the world, but even as an infant, he was a fighter. Despite his many disabilities, Kevin grew and thrived alongside his two sisters. He moved to West Newbury in 1986 and attended special education classes in the Pentucket Regional School District before making a brave move to New England Village, a community for intellectually disabled adults, in 2000. Kevin thrived at the Village, attaining a level of autonomy and independence never imagined by his family. Kevin loved swimming at the Village’s Wellness Center and going on outings with staff and other residents. He loved shopping, picnics, visiting the beach and sitting beneath his beloved trees in his hammock. Kevin also liked to look stylish, and had strong opinions over his wardrobe. Over the years, he developed a love for the color green. It was the exact Kelly green of his track suit when he ran with the Page School Special Olympics as a child. Kevin was a gentle soul, an innocent, who only brought light into the world. He was incredibly intuitive and perceptive and will forever be remembered for his infectious smile.
In addition to his parents, Kevin is survived by his sisters, Courtney Kaminski, her husband John, and their two children, Isabella and Luke, of West Newbury, and Kelsey Ricci, and her husband Michael, of Brooklyn, New York, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Kevin’s loss is also deeply shared by his extended family at New England Village in Pembroke, Massachusetts.
Kevin will be honored at a memorial Mass in Boston at a later date. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Kevin’s family with his arrangements.
