Julia (Carey) O’Connor passed away peacefully in the comfort of her loving family on February 21, 2023. She was born in Newburyport on March 10, 1929 to the late Michael and Mary Carey. She raised a happy family in Newbury with her husband William. She enjoyed 41 years of marriage until William’s passing in 2000.
Julia graduated from Immaculate Conception Grammar School and Newburyport High School. She worked as a telephone operator until becoming a stay at home mother. She was a devout member of Immaculate Conception. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella. She also enjoyed spending time with the Immaculate Conception knitting group where she made prayer shawls and hats for the newborn babies at the Anna Jacques Hospital. The knitting group were special friends of hers.
Julia is survived by her three children, Ann English and her husband Edward of Haverhill, Julie O’Connor of Newbury, and William O’Connor of Newburyport; two grandsons Michael English and his wife Lauren, and Brian English; and a great granddaughter Hannah English, all of Haverhill. She is also survived by her brother Donald Carey and several nieces and nephews. Julia was predeceased by her sisters Mary Drown, Helen Johnson and Patricia Natale, and her sister in law Majorie McVann.
Family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Monday February 27, 2023 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. Her Funeral Mass will follow at Immaculate Conception Church at 11:30, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
