Josephine M. (O'Connor) Smith

Josephine M. Smith, 89 of Port Charlotte, FL passed away on Wednesday September 25, 2024.She was the wife of the late Paul M. Smith and former resident of Newburyport and Amesbury, MA.

Born in Malden MA on August 3, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Anna and John O'Connor. "Jo" as she liked to be called graduated from Malden Catholic Girls High School. Jo worked for the telephone company in Boston before she married and raised a family.  She also worked for many years at Shaws supermarket in Newburyport.

Jo is survived by her two sons and their wives, John and Kelly Smith and their family of Melbourne, FL and Michael and Jodye Smith of Groveland, MA; three daughters, Jeanne Koch, Tricia Smith and her companion Peter Came, all of Port Charlotte, FL and Christine Smith of Amesbury, MA; seven grandchildren, the late Shawn Paul Stanwood, Nicole Koch, Ross and Lianna Wingfield, Jacob, Cameron and Shae Smith; her great grandsons, Silas, Jasper and Victor Lord; her brother John; sister in law Paula O'Connor of Salem, NH; sister in law Maryann Houston of Marshfield, MA; and her cousin Elaine Gordon; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.  She was the sister of the late Anne Taft.

Family and friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday October 6, 2024 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Monday October 7, 2024 at Immaculate Conception Church followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
