Joseph V. Murphy, Jr.

Joseph Murphy, Jr., died Sunday evening June 25, 2023 at his residence in Salisbury. He was born in Newburyport, MA on October 31, 1943 to the late Elaine (Holbrook) and Joseph Murphy, Sr. Joseph was raised in Newburyport and was a graduate of Newburyport High School Class of 1962. Following his graduation Joseph enlisted in the US Navy in February of 1963 and served our country proudly during the Vietnam war until his Honorable Discharge in January of 1965.

Joseph was employed by Owens Illinois as a Factory Worker for over 30 years until his retirement. He was also the Owner/Operator of the Jo-El's Coffee Shop in Byfield with his late Wife Eleanor from 1984 until its closing in 1993. He enjoyed traveling to Florida every year with his wife, and spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren who affectionally called him “Grampy”.

Joseph is survived by his children, Richard Miller, Jr. and his wife Shellene of Hudson, Jason Miller and his wife Becky of NH, and Brandy Rock of Salisbury; grandchildren, Tiffany, Zachary, Christopher, Mason, Corey, Ryan, and Halle; siblings, Dennis Murphy and his wife Virginia of Merrimac, MA, Michael Murphy of Newburyport, Sharon Holmes of Newburyport, and Donald Murphy of Newburyport; as well as many nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his loving wife Eleanor (Lyons) Murphy in 2018.

Eleanor, was the love of his life, but he also had a special place in his heart for Golf, Pool, Cribbage, and a good Captain Morgan and Coke. Joe’s mantra in life was “Life is Good”.

Family and friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Saturday July 8, 2023 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. His services and burial will be private.
