Joseph Jancewicz Obituary

Joseph George Jancewicz, 69, of Kensington, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully with family present on September 8, 2024, at Exeter Hospital in Exeter, New Hampshire, after a long illness.  He was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, on September 23, 1954, the son of Stanley Albert Jancewicz and Jennie Sophie (Seliga) Jancewicz.

Joe grew up in Newburyport, Massachusetts, and graduated from Newburyport High School in 1972.

Joey enjoyed life to the fullest. He was one of the finest persons you would ever want to meet. He played Little and Senior league baseball and was captain of his senior high school baseball team. He was also a very good hockey player.  He worked most of his life where he enjoyed being the most on the Merrimac River. You could find him there fishing, lobstering, or on his lift lowering in or lifting boats out of the river. But what he enjoyed the most was fishing for blue fin tuna with his friends. Joey, with his incredible eyesight and knowledge of the area, was considered by most the best tuna fisherman on the east coast. He could spot a school of tuna way before anyone had an idea they were anywhere near the boat.  Among his many fish caught his largest prize was a tuna weighting over 1,250 pounds. Other than his daughters, who he loved so much, one by the way he spent 4 weeks in China adopting, there was golf. Whether it be one of the many local courses he played or in Ireland and Mexico, or over the thirty-year run of January Mrytle Beach and Florida trips he organized with friends, the passion was high. We all have many fond memories of interpreting the rules of golf with Joe in which at times he had some curious takes leaving most us in hysterics. Too many sub rules he would always argue or someone’s outrageous handicap. He will be sorely be missed by all his golf friends.

Joe was predeceased by his parents and many aunts and uncles.  Joe is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sally (Mansfield) Jancewicz, daughter Alyson Rose Jancewicz of Kensington, NH and partner Nate, daughter Leah Mei Jancewicz of Kensington, NH and partner Charlie, brother Robert Jancewicz Sr. and wife Donna of Hancock, Maine, niece and God daughter Jennifer Ratti and husband Chris of Hancock, Maine, nephew Robert Jancewicz, Jr. of Sullivan, Maine, great nephew Kyle Ratti currently of Delray Beach, Florida, great niece Alyssa Ratti of Hancock, Maine, great nephew Jaxson Ratti of Hancock, Maine, his Aunt Mabel Jancewicz of Newburyport, Massachusetts, and many, many cousins. He is also survived by special friends George, Richie, Sammy, Ronnie, Raymond and too many more to list. The list goes on and on for the friendships he acquired during his lifetime. You know who you are.

A private, small celebration of life with family and close friends will occur at a later date and will likely include a boat ride on the ocean, the place where Joe was the happiest.
