John Tremblay, Jr. Obituary

Jack Tremblay passed away on July 8, 2021, after living with cancer for almost eight years. Everyone who ever met Jack liked him, those that knew him loved him, and those closest cherished him. He was a gentle giant that spoke softly and listened carefully.

He developed a passion for the great outdoors early in life, with wilderness adventures as an Explorer, and a talent for drawing led him naturally to a career designing outdoor environments. He could and did educate many people about how specific plants would enhance a given space, and the interesting qualities of specific trees, shrubs, and grasses.

While earning his degree in Landscape Architecture at U Mass Amherst, Jack developed lifelong friendships with a close circle that became his supporters over his journey. Upon learning he had cancer, many of Jack’s residential landscape design clients became close friends, working together on multiple houses throughout New England over the years.

Being a parent was his highest priority. Jack dedicated his time to his son, Dominic, and the two of them spent many days together enjoying simple pleasures. They found common interests in blockbuster Marvel movies, Mythbusters and other History channel series. Thanks to Dominic, Jack was able to retain his youthful curiosity, even while enduring the course of his illness.

While his disease never defined him, the grace and strength with which he lived inspired everyone around him to live their lives with passion for the things that mattered. Attitude is everything, and his was one of determination and compassion. To his care team at Beth Israel, he was legendary. We cannot express how grateful we are to Dr. David McDermott and the entire team at Beth Israel, for extending Jack’s life and the time we were able to spend with him.

Jack will be terribly missed by all who knew him, but especially at family gatherings where his personality was larger than life and his light shone so brightly. His Christmas gifts were playful and eccentric, and always a surprise.

Jack will be forever remembered by his son Dominic, his sisters and brother-in-law Lynda & Mickey Berkowitz and Karin Tremblay all of Newburyport and was predeceased by his parents, John and Alice Tremblay.
