John N. Leung

John Leung of West Newbury, MA passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on Friday, July 28, 2023. He was 83 years old.

John was the eldest son of Leung Chi Kui and Lee Oi King of Hong Kong. He worked as an accountant for most of his life. In 1983, at the height of his career, he left behind his life in Hong Kong and immigrated with his wife and children to the U.S. and started over again. He did so to provide his daughter and son with the best education and opportunities possible. His sacrifices, resilience, and tremendous hard work paid off, and his family realized the ‘American Dream’.

John will be remembered for his gregarious nature. He will be missed by anyone who benefited from his warmth and kindness, his thoughtfulness and generosity, and his infectious positive attitude. He was the ray of sunshine that brightened any room he was in, and he made a lasting impact to all who knew him. John loved his family and friends deeply, and was loved and respected in return. He amassed lasting friendships wherever he went; his monthly lunch meet-up with his childhood schoolmates remained one of his favorite activities. John was generous with his time, and he was the best tipper. We will also miss his goofy party games, homemade contraptions of questionable aesthetics, and meticulous record keeping.

John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eleana (Zee) Leung, his daughter Musetta Leung and son-in-law Peter Tardie, his son Kenrick Leung and daughter-in-law Evelyn Yu, granddaughters Haylie and Kiara, grandson Ethan, siblings Philip Leung, Matilda Tang, Regina Lee, Selina Cheung and their spouses, many nieces and nephews (both by blood and those he regarded for all intents and purposes), numerous devoted cousins and countless friends living all across the globe.

A private service and burial are planned. The Twomey, LeBlanc & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mr. Leung’s family with his funeral arrangements.
