John Larnard Obituary

John Daniel Larnard passed away peacefully July 5, 2022 after a brief illness. He was blessed to have been surrounded and supported by his loving family during his declining health.

John was born in Amesbury, MA on April 18, 1932. He was the son of the late Raymond and Viola (Murphy) Larnard.

John attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School in Amesbury and graduated from Amesbury High School, the class of 1950. He then completed a business program at the Andover School of Business.

During the Korean Conflict, John proudly served in the U.S. Navy. After fulfilling his Navy career, John worked as a computer programmer for Raytheon Corp.

John worked for the United States Postal Service for several years in the town of Amesbury. John's warm personality, keen sense of humor and strong work ethic was appreciated and respected by the families he served. John was elected by his peers as President of the Local Postal Union, NALC. John was recently recognized as a Life Member for his 50 years of membership with the National Association of Letter Carriers.

John was also a life long member of the Elks BPOE #909. He was proud to be a member of the Knight’s of Columbus and the local chapter of the Hibernians. John took pride in his membership in the newly formed Senior center in Newburyport as well as the Salisbury Senior Center. In both clubs, he formed many friendships and enjoyed the camaraderie with his peers. He volunteered countless hours at both the Relay for Life and Salvation Army.

John enjoyed working around his home and could often be seen with a lawnmower or rake at hand. He always took the time to help a neighbor in need. He enjoyed coaching his daughters’ sports teams, cheering at his grandchildren's events, and was truly proud of all their accomplishments.

Although John was legally blind, it never stopped John from being the strong life-force for his family. His quiet manner, compassion and kindness towards others made him the special man he was.

His love of Ireland brought he and his wife Joan on trips to visit distant relatives and tour Ireland’s beauty. Trips to South Carolina with his brother-in-law Gene and wife Loise were life long memories he kept close to his heart.

The single most important treasure in John’s life was his family. John and his wife Joan (Sullivan) Larnard recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. They were blessed in life with their beloved daughters Eileen Picillo (Gregg) and Kathleen Larnard. Cherished grandchildren; Justin Picillo and his wife Keera, Megan and Joseph Saucier, Molly Picillo and the late Luke Daniel Picillo, Shane Michael and Melinda Hague; Kienan Christopher and Liam Patrick Hague.
