John Joseph Hriczo, Jr, 76, of Newburyport, MA, passed peacefully under the light of the full moon on February 2, 2026, after a valiant fight with multiple cancers. Born in Torrington, CT to John and Helen (Gosselin) Hriczo. He graduated Torrington High, received his Bachelor’s from Springfield College, and earned an MBA from Northeastern University. He was employed with the Boy Scouts of America, Lone Tree Scout Reservation, Wang Laboratories, and Cabot Stains.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Susan (Skrovanek), daughters Elizabeth (Jason Katonica) of Glenmont, NY, and Kathryn Hriczo (Jonathan Woodard) of Newburyport/Malden, MA, grandchildren Emily Katonica and Cooper Woodard, and his beloved corgi Mikie.
John was a talented musician, an avid political and history buff, passionate foodie, hospice volunteer, Boston sports fan, proud Papa, and a master storyteller. He loved playing acoustic guitar at gigs along the New England coast and spreading magic during the holidays. John was a practicing Buddhist who's given name was "Jamba" which means loving-kindness.
The family wishes to thank John’s vast care team who brought a sense of calm and became extended family during his complex illnesses. In lieu of donations, the family asks to pay it forward with an act of kindness in John's memory.
