Joel Eiserman Obituary

Joel “Ike” Eiserman lost his 3-year battle with ALS on April 29,2018.

He was born in Highwood, Illinois on August 13, 1943 to the late Jobbie and Ellen Eiserman. He grew up in Lake Bluff, Illinois and “came east” to attend Dartmouth College, where he played football.  Following his graduation 1965, he started his Naval career that included 26 years of service, both active and reserve, ultimately retiring as a Navy Captain.  He met and married his wife Rachel while stationed in Newport, RI and they moved to Newburyport in 1970 where they raised their two sons, Bill and Bob Eiserman.

Following active duty, he enjoyed a successful career in the computer software industry working for both PeopleSoft and Oracle.  He continued his education receiving an MBA from Boston College and a Master’s degree in Information Systems from Bentley Collage.

He loved his family and was so proud of his two sons and seven grandchildren, who he always bragged about to everyone he met.  As his health failed, he missed seeing his grandchildren participate in their sports and school events but would look forward to a report on the event or the ability to watch their games on-line.

Ike is survived by his wife, Rachel; sons Bill and wife Dianne; Bob and wife Marci of Newburyport; his grandsons, Billy, Jr.; Chris and his wife Samantha,, Shane, Cole and Caden; his granddaughters, Kenzie and Adeline; his brothers, Jerry and wife Trish of  McHenry, Illinois; Kenny and wife  Mary Anne of Libertyville,  Illinois; and sister Jo Ellen Anderson and husband Randy of  Burlington, Wisconsin.
