Joanne M. (Leonard) Powers

Joanne M. (Leonard) Powers of Newburyport left this world on her own terms on April 29, 2023. Born the daughter of John Leonard and Mary (Farrell) Leonard on March 6, 1944, she was raised in Peabody and graduated Peabody High School, Class of 1962. Joanne has been reunited with her parents, her 5 siblings, her partner of many years Paul Godjikian, and her beloved dog Cali, who was the light of her life.  She worked as a Trial Clerk for the Essex Country Probate and Family Court until she retired in 2003.

Joanne loved gardening but had an avid dislike of bugs and could always be found with a fly-swatter in-hand. She enjoyed saying hello to all who passed by her front porch and cherished the wonderful people of her neighborhood who showed her much kindness.

Joanne is survived by: daughters, Christine Powers and her partner June Kelly of Brandon, VT, and Lori Braese of Danvers, MA, grandchildren, Austin Braese and his wife Sarah of VT, and Brandy (Braese) Lufkin and her husband Kirk of TX, as well as 3 great-grandchildren, Jacob Lufkin, and Eleanor and Isabelle Braese. She also leaves behind her bonus children: Brian Godjikian, Amy (Godjikian) Efstratios and David Godjikian, her goddaughter Dawn Paradis Peret, and many nieces and nephews from the Leonard, Paradis, and Powers sides of the family.

Family and friends may pay their respects from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Monday, May 15, 2023 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. Joanne’s Funeral Service will be Celebrated in the Funeral Home immediately following the calling hours. Burial will follow at 12:30 pm at the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Peabody. Those who cannot make the trip to the funeral home are welcome to join us at the cemetery.
