Joanne "Jojo" (Papadopoulos) Perreault, 59, of Salisbury, MA, beloved wife of Edmund "Chris" F. Perreault, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 in Portsmouth, NH, following a long and courageous battle with young-onset Alzheimer’s.
Born and raised in Newburyport, MA, Joanne was the cherished youngest daughter of the late Pericles J. and Anastasia (Markos) Papadopoulos. She grew up in a fun-loving Greek household, full of family, friends, music, dancing, and many cherished memories.
A graduate of Newburyport High School’s Class of 1983, Joanne was a spirited cheerleader and class officer, remaining close to many of her classmates over the years. She began her college studies at the University of New Hampshire, before transferring to Boston University where she earned a degree in Communications Cum Laude. Throughout her college years she interned at Boston’s WBCN radio station and the Hellenic Chronicle newspaper. During summers, she worked for the local cable station and after graduation, moved to New York City to begin a successful career with the Disney Channel as a marketing and sales rep with her office located right on Madison Ave. Following her engagement to Chris, Joanne returned to Newburyport to work for the Boston-based Phoenix newspaper. She later spent many years as a Marketing Communication Specialist at Riso, Inc. and most recently served as a substitute teacher in the Salisbury school system until the COVID pandemic. Joanne also served on the Salisbury Conservation Commission for several years.
A lifelong steward of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Joanne embraced her faith with devotion and joy. She served in numerous roles including Director and teacher of the Sunday School, was the editor and printer of the Monthly Bulletin for nine years, several terms on the Parish Council, and sang faithfully and joyously in the choir from the age of ten.
Joanne had a boundless love for reading, movies, music, singing, dancing, and time spent socializing. She was an 80's and 90's kind of girl with an appreciation for contemporary music – especially Taylor Swift, whose concerts she joyfully attended with her daughter Ana. Even as memories faded, she could still sing the lyrics to her favorite songs. Her brilliant blue eyes, radiant smile and infectious laughter lit up every room she entered.
Above all, Joanne treasured her family. Her happiest moments were spent with Chris and their children, whether vacationing at Disney or snuggled up all together in the "west wing" watching movies. She and Chris were blessed with 31 years of love and marriage.
Joanne is survived by her devoted husband Chris; her daughter Anastasia (Perreault) and husband Will Felix; her son Nicholas Perreault; and her fur baby Jamie. She also leaves behind her sisters, Tina Papadopoulos and her partner Robert Messier, and Cindy (Papadopoulos) and her husband David Krafton all of Salisbury, MA; her mother-in-law Barbara Perreault; sister-in-law Tracy (Perreault) and husband Steve Knowlton; brother-in-law Keith Perreault; godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends both in the U.S. and Greece. She was predeceased by her father-in-law, Edmund F. Perreault.
Family and Friends may call on Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the Twomey, LeBlanc and Conte Funeral Home, 193 High St, Newburyport, MA. Joanne’s funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, August 1, 2025 at 11AM at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church at 7 Harris St, Newburyport, MA followed by burial at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newburyport.
